COMMITTEES
Below is a list of committees. Please contact the Executive Committee or the Chairperson for more information or to volunteer. Remember, fresh ideas are always welcome too.
After School Program
Chair: Joanne Cupo
Around once a month, the PTA offers the opportunity for younger students to participate in a craft at a reasonable cost for an hour after school. Occasionally, we are able to offer other paid after-school programs as well, such as a science program. Volunteers assist the coordinator during the program.
Assemblies
Chair: Joanne Cupo
Researches assemblies and works with administration to book assemblies in accordance with our PTA budget and in agreement with our PTA in general. Duties include coordinating dates, setting up contracts, arranging payment, meeting the guest speaker, promoting the event to the school, and handling any follow-up.
Box Tops & Labels Collection
Chair: Marian Hayes
Coordinates the collection and submission of labels and box tops program. Helps to promote each program and distribute materials to school families.
Bulletin Board
Chair: Kiki Frasca
The PTA bulletin board is located to the right of the cafeteria doors. Volunteers can assist with keeping it up-to-date.
Clothing Drive
Chair: OPEN
Runs a Fall and a Spring used clothing drive to raise funds.
Dads Committee
Chair: OPEN
New in 2008/2009, the PTA formed a committee just for OCS dads and those who fill that role. The purpose is for dads to get more involved in the PTA and school by hosting events, such as dads serving ice cream at the Cold Stone Creamery, and coordinating projects.
Dollars for Dollars
Chair: Joanna Weldon
Salesperson: OPEN
Purchases ShopRite, A&P and Kohl's gift cards in bulk at a discount in order to resell to school families and faculty at face value, thus earning a profit for the PTA.
Entertainment Books
Chair: Lori Calavano
Each Fall, the PTA sells Entertainment coupon/discount books as a fundraiser. Volunteers can assist with the distribution, collection and promotion of these books.
Family Fun Nights
Chairs: Needed for each event
Several times a year, the PTA coordinates these nights where all OCS families are invited to the school for an evening of fun. Themes have included: Bingo, Family Board Game Night, Volleyball and Dodgeball. The PTA usually sells refreshments. If you would like to suggest a theme, coordinate a night (see dates below), or volunteer to help, please contact the Executive Committee.

Field Day
Chair: Gerri Klein
Field Day is a school wide event held each June at the Oxford Furnace Lake. The PTA provides ice pops for all the students and sees if Nurse Nyman needs anything.
Flamingo Flocking
Chair: Debbie McLaughlin
New for the summer of 2009, OCS families can "flock" their neighbors with a bunch of flamingos on their lawn for a small donation.
Friend Finder Directory
Co-Chairs: Krista Michniewicz & Ann Marie Salmon
Each Fall, the PTA publishes a directory of OCS students by class/homeroom. Participation is optional. Volunteers can enter data, proofread, format and print the directory.
Graduation Activities
Chair: Sue McHale
Provides gift cards for graduating 8th graders as well as honor roll students. Also arranges for balloons, flowers, etc. for the graduation ceremony.
Holiday Shop
Co-Chairs: Joanne Cupo and Maureen Kelly
A small gift shop held in December allows students to purchase holiday items for family members at a reasonable cost. Volunteers are needed to assist in the sale of these items during school hours and the evening of the Winter Concert, as well as setup and cleanup.
Homework Incentives

Kids' Tricky Tray
Co-Chairs: Debbie McLaughlin and Amy Henry
New in May 2009, this is a "tricky tray" just for OCS students and their siblings. Involves booking a date for the event in the cafeteria, purchasing and wrapping prizes, coordinating volunteers, writing up an event program, sending home flyers, and purchasing tickets.
Kindergarten Orientation
Chair: Adrienne Nixon
Each August, Kindergarteners are invited to meet their teacher and spend some time in their classroom with their classmates. Volunteers can assist with the preparation of what the PTA provides (pencil boxes, supplies, school t-shirt, snack, Market Day bags and handouts) and talk about PTA programs that day.
Kindness Tea
Chair: Kiki Frasca and Krista Michniewicz
Teacher Representative: Mrs. Millie Hahn
Held each year in May, this event honors students winning the school Kindness contest. The tea is held at a local coffee shop or restaurant, so volunteers would be responsible for creating the invitations, choosing and coordinating the venue and preparing favors.
Luau Lunch
Chair: Al Pierro
This lunch is held in June as a year-end celebration for the entire school including students, staff and administration. Volunteers are needed to donate/order food, decorate, cook during the event, and assist with serving, setup and cleanup.
Market Day
Chair: Joanna Weldon
Market Day is a monthly program where anyone can purchase groceries for pickup at OCS once a month. This is a convenient way to shop while benefiting the PTA. Volunteers are needed at every sale/pickup from around 5:45 PM to 8:00 PM to unload boxes, sort the items, and pack customer orders.
Membership
Chair: Debbie McLaughlin
Volunteers can assist with promoting membership in the PTA and coordinating volunteers for events and fundraisers.
OCS at the Movies
Chair: Lori Calavano
The Washington Theatre allows us to keep a portion of the admission price for one viewing of a family-friendly movie that we promote. Volunteers assist with the promotion and running of the event.
Parent and Community Relations
Chair: Executive Committee
The PTA reaches out to parents and the community at various events, such as Back To School Night and the Oxford Summer Music Festival, in order to distribute information and promote fundraisers. Volunteers are need to take a shift at the table/booth at these events.
Pumpkins and Poetry
Chair: Adrienne Nixon
New in October 2008, the PTA hosted a contest/display for all OCS students, families and faculty/staff to enter their Halloween-themed poem or pumpkin.
Scholastic Book Fairs
Co-Chairs: Susan Hale and Sherri Miller
One is held in the Fall and one in the Spring to offer students the chance to purchase books. Volunteers are needed to assist in the sale of the books, usually during school hours and sometimes 1 or 2 evenings, and with setup and cleanup.
School Store
Chair: Sue McHale
New in 2008/2009, the PTA holds a "school store" in the cafeteria on a regular basis to allow students to purchase school items at a reasonable price.
Spirit Day
Chair: Ann Marie Norton
Spirit Day is usually held the first Tuesday of each month. Students and faculty show their school spirit by wearing our school colors (blue and gold), their spirit t-shirts, or dressing for that month's theme. The class with the highest percentage of participation wins and gets to choose the next month's theme.
Spirit T-Shirts
Chair: Debbie McLaughlin
Assist with the sale of OCS spirit t-shirts, which are available in youth and adult sizes.
Teacher Appreciation Lunch
Co-Chairs: Lisa Mahoney and Jeanye Blendermann
The lunch is conducted in conjunction with the National Teacher Appreciation Day in May and honors all teachers, staff and administration. Held at school during the teachers' lunch hour, volunteers are needed to create invitations, buy and prepare food, and for setup and cleanup.
Thank You/Early Bird Registration Party

At the end of the school year, we hold a party to thank everyone who supported the PTA and to ask you to register for the next year.
Tricky Tray - Our 2008 TT was tied for 1st place for Best Tricky Tray on trickytray.com!
Chair: Kiki Frasca
Held in April, this is the PTA's largest fundraiser. This event has many tasks and responsibilities, some of which include soliciting donations, wrapping baskets, coordinating classroom baskets, creating welcome bags, selling tickets, coordinating a venue, advertising, etc. as well as helping the day of the event.
